Centring his work around conceptual food, Ryan's latest project focuses in on something more personal, as he takes a reflective look at mental health and his own experience with OCD.
“For many people, the lockdown offered the opportunity to slow things down and to spend more time with their families. For others, the lockdown has created a world of uncertainty, which can have a resounding impact on mental health. Having suffered from OCD for many years in my late teens and early 20s, I wanted to create a project that conveys the daily battle of our internal dialogues and intrusive thoughts. Through a series of self-portraits, I wanted to capture the feeling of hopelessness, frustration and isolation, which can often occur as a result of the condition”.
